Open call for applications to the Accountability Accelerator’s Integrity Council for science-based targets for nature

The Global Commons Alliance’s Accountability Accelerator, which hosts the independent target validation function for the Science Based Targets Network (SBTN), is calling for applications to its Integrity Council.
The Integrity Council’s role is to ensure the integrity, accuracy and scientific validity of the target validation process for science-based targets for nature.
The Integrity Council is an independent deliberation and decision-making entity, which oversees the governance of the target validation function and approves the operating procedures for validation assessments in compliance with SBTN target-setting methods. This includes overseeing matters around conflict of interest, compliance with data protection, and complaints and appeals.
The Integrity Council reports through its Chair directly to the Accountability Accelerator’s Executive Director. The Council’s work is supported by the Accountability Accelerator’s Validation Director.
Key responsibilities:
- Set the strategic direction of the Accountability Accelerator’s target validation function;
- Provide final approval on validation decisions;
- Provide oversight of the end-to-end validation process and ensure suitability for purpose;
- Ensure quality control of the validation services and identify areas of risk; and
- Champion the independence and integrity of the target validation function.
Required skills and experience:
- Expertise in relevant disciplines or sectors, including environmental science, climate policy, sustainable business practices, or related fields;
- Clear understanding and alignment with the Accountability Accelerator and SBTN’s mission, values and strategic goals;
- Track record of effective collaboration in multidisciplinary, multicultural, and geographically-dispersed teams.
All candidates must be independent from SBTN and the Accountability Accelerator, and they must demonstrate independence from companies or disclose any corporate ties.

Term, time commitment and remuneration
Integrity Council members will serve for a single term of two to three years, while the Accountability Accelerator is hosting the target validation function for SBTN (the mid-term validation phase 2024-2026).
A time commitment of 12-16 days per year is expected.
Membership of the Integrity Council is voluntary. Members will be remunerated with an honorarium of no more than USD$7,000.00 per year (by request only).

To apply, please send a CV and covering letter to validation@accountabilityaccelerator.org. The deadline for applications is 17 October 2024 [now extended until 21 December 2024].
Applications will be shortlisted by the Accountability Accelerator’s team and then submitted to an independent Selection Committee for final selection in November. Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors (RPA) will provide independent oversight of the process.
