Building a Just Transition to Renewable Energies (Follow-up): Supporting advocacy and community action in exposing the impacts of toxic pollution from cobalt mining in DR Congo

Project summary

At the heart of the problem is the global race for transition minerals such as cobalt, lithium, nickel, graphite and rare earths. All needed for electric vehicles (EV), wind turbines and solar panels and to end our dependence on fossil fuels. The transition to green energy is pivotal in combating climate change, yet it must be pursued with a strong commitment to climate justice.

RAID’s proposed work aims to ensure that this shift does not lead to further environmental harm or deepen social inequities through irresponsible mining for essential new technologies.
