Project summary
The Africa Palm Oil Initiative (APOI), now expanded to the Africa Sustainable Commodities Initiative, (ASCI) has been instrumental in promoting the use of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) in member countries in Central and West Africa.
This project proposes to develop, communicate and support implementation of FPIC guidelines in the Republic of Congo and Liberia. Through action on FPIC we also aim to support the Africa Sustainable Commodities Initiative platforms to build their strengths and capabilities.
IPLC rights are protected through a clear, legally mandated and widely understood process for ensuring that development on their lands only goes ahead with their free, prior and informed consent.
